Poffertjes (Dutch Mini Pancakes)

Poffertjes (Dutch Mini Pancakes)

I did not realize till most recently that “poffertjes” is a typical Dutch dish. You can’t find the poffertjes pan here in the USA.  I did find something similar like a poffertjes pan in my local China shop  this takoyaki pan, which is a good substitute for a poffertjes pan.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cups of flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp yeast
  • 1 egg
  • butter
  • white powder sugar

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk till it’s about 110F add the yeast and the sugar. Wait till the milk mix is bubbly.
  2. Add the salt and an egg to the flour. When the milk yeast mix is bubbly add to the flour and stir. whisk until you’ve reached a smooth batter.  Set aside for about 1/2 hour. Pour the batter in a squirt bottle.
  3. Heat the poffertjes pan on medium high (I don’t have one, but this one will do) add some butter and squirt the holes half way full. If you have the original poffertjes pan you fill it all the way up. Flip the ‘poffertjes’ after about one minute, or until golden brown. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and add some butter.

Most recently I received some products to try out from the Kneaded Kitchen Company. One is a Norpro Batter dispenser. It’s easy and fast to use for making the poffertjes.

This is a great recipe to make with your children or grand children. What my granddaughter is wearing is a kids apron set from The Kneaded Kitchen. She loves it !!!!

  • Did you mean to write tablespoon of yeast? I made them and couldn’t eat them because the finished product tasted like yeast

    • If it taste to yeasty to you. You go ahead and lower the amount. All my recipes are a “guide”. Make all the changes to your preference. Hope the poffertjes come out better the next time.
