Dutch Potato Salad also called Huzarensalade or as we called it at home Slaatje is a traditional Dutch dish presented at twelve o’clock at night. This salad is only called Huzarensalade in the Netherlands. In the rest of the world they call a salad of meat, potatoes, pickles, onion, dressing and some mayonnaise on top, a Russian salad. The origin of the Huzaren Salad is – as is the case with many dishes – not completely known. Hussars were originally Hungarian horsemen, who camped in the Austrian army to fight against the Turks. It was impossible to make fire in the battle area, because they had to remain unseen. Therefore, the hussars took food that they had prepared in advance. Such as cold salads with potatoes, vegetables and meat. This is how these salads got the name Hussar salad.

Materials
2boneless pork chops
1/2tspchicken bouillon
5Russet potatoes
Pinchof Salt
1/4cupGerman Pickles
1/4cupchopped cocktail onions
1/2onion chopped
3tbspof Mayonnaise of your choice. I prefer Dukessecond choice for this potato salad is Kraft light
1/2tbspapple cider vinegar
3/4tsppepper
For the decoration
Boiled eggs
Tomatoes
Chopped German pickles
Paprika
Instructions
It’s best to make this salad at least a day ahead, so the flavors can marinate. On the day of, taste and see if you need to add more mayonnaise and or seasonings.
Put the pork chops in a pot and add chicken bouillon. Cook till done. Cut the pork chops in small pieces.
Wash, peel and cube the potatoes. Cook for about 10 minutes or until done. Allow the potato cubes to cool down.
Chop the onion, cocktail onions and German Pickles. Add to the cutup pork; chopped onion, pepper, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, chopped German Pickles and the chopped cocktail onions. Now you can eat it like this or decorate the salad with ea. Boiled eggs, chopped pickles, tomato and sprinkle with Paprika. If you want to do it the "old" fashioned way, first put some lettuce leaves on the plate then add the potato salad.
