Kapsalon

Kapsalon

Kapsalon,  has turned into one of the most popular street foods of the Netherlands it has an interesting mix of influences: Dutch and Middle-Eastern.  The name kapsalon comes from the Dutch word for hairdressing shop, and the dish itself is a recent invention — it was created in 2003 in Rotterdam. An owner of a hairdresser shop used to have his lunch at a nearby shoarma shop. He asked to add various toppings such as Gouda cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, garlic sauce, and spicy Indonesian sauce sambal.  Kapsalon soon grew popular with both the locals and the tourists, and it didn’t take long for before it became a major fast food hit.  In the Netherlands, kapsalon is most commonly enjoyed as a quick and filling lunch, or as a hangover-preventing snack after a night of drinking.

There is no Dutch style Shoarma shop in my neighborhood so I make my own version of Shoarma.
